IG Intro: Finding Safe Food and Water

Posted on

Traveling abroad can be an exciting adventure. But, if you’re not careful, you could run into trouble. That’s why it’s important to pay attention to food, and water safety tips. Not only should you practice safe water saving tips at home. You should also be mindful of safe eating, and drinking when you travel out of the country. These additional tips will allow you to eat, drink, and be merry when you visit your favorite foreign destination.

Plan Ahead

Even before your big day, you should start considering safety precautions. Specifically speaking, research your destination. Yes, you know all about the sights, and attractions that you want to see. But, do you know if they practice the same food-safety standards that Americans do? If not, find out. It’s better to be safe than sorry.

Going On Vacation

While you may know all about your destination, you may not understand the intricacies of their food preparation. Specifically, they may not cook their food all the way through like we do in the states. Make sure you steer clear of any possible raw food unless you’re positive it is safe to it. Even undercooked food can carry germs, and – just like in America – they will travel with you. It’s best to err on the side of caution.

When it comes to water safety, you may want to avoid tap water in certain areas. There’s a reason why they tell you not to drink it. Instead, stick with the sealed beverages. You won’t be sorry.

Next, avoid food that has been sitting at room temperature or warmer. Bacteria can breed in such conditions, and they can be a germ target, as well.

Avoid The Adventure

While you may want to experience the culture in every way, keep in mind that foreign cities make food differently compared to how we prepare the same dishes. This includes everything from meat to vegetables, and fruit. Therefore, it is important to find out about their methods before you try anything. If there is any doubt, throw it out! Don’t make a decision you’ll regret later.

We all love to experience new things, and explore. However, doing so with caution is necessary – especially if you are going to an unknown land. Don’t fool yourself. The sights, and attractions are one thing. But, don’t let your curiosity get the best of you. Stay safe, and have a great journey.
